Trumpet G Major Scale Finger Chart (Concert F)
G Major takes you cleanly to G5 right above the top line of the treble staff. Arch the back of your tongue ('Eh' to 'Ee' vowel) as you ascend from D5 to G5 instead of adding mouthpiece pressure.
G Major Scale — Live Valve Trainer
E5 (Open) on the 5th partial naturally sits slightly flat; keep air buoyant or test 1-2 on sustained chords.
Mastering the Trumpet G Major Scale
Written G Major introduces a single sharp—F♯ (played with Valve 2)—and sounds as Concert F Major on a B♭ trumpet. Because the standard one-octave pattern runs from second-line G4 to G5 on top of the staff, G Major is the single best scale for building effortless upper-staff endurance.
Key Valve Transitions to Watch
- C5 (0) → D5 (1): Here you step from the 4th harmonic partial onto the 5th partial. Keep your abdominal air support steady so D5 speaks immediately without sagging flat.
- E5 (0) → F♯5 (2) → G5 (0): Many beginners accidentally play F♮5 (Valve 1) out of habit. Lock Valve 2 into muscle memory for the leading tone F♯5 on the fifth line.
Two-Octave Extension Option
Once G4–G5 feels comfortable, add the lower octave starting on Low G3 (1 - 3, extend 3rd slide) through A3 (1-2), B3 (2), C4 (0), D4 (1-3), E4 (1-2), and F♯4 (2) up to G4 (0) for a complete two-octave audition scale!
